Objective

According to the CDC approximately 12 million people 40 years and over in the United States have vision impairment, including 1 million who are blind. There are four different types of Visual Impairment:

• Tunnel Vision

• Blurred Vision

• Double Vision

• Large Spots of Blocked Vision

Target Audience

Museum visitors that are visually impaired, and cannot navigate the space without assistance from tour guides or other assistants.

By 2034, there will be 77.0 million people 65 years and older, compared to 76.5 million under the age of 18. According to the US Census Bureau, this will be the first time in US history that older people outnumber children

Shadowing Tours

Shadowing tours at The Metropolitan Museum of Art gave useful insights. Although these tours were focused on the participants’ experiences with art and how they interact with it, there were interesting things about how they moved within gallery spaces.

Ideation

Ideating a solution that would not disturb the integrity of the spaces they lived in, would not disturb the peace of others in the museum, would be easy to use, and make finding your way through interiors easy.
