CAMPO (Pratt)
Target Audience
Children in underdeveloped communities of the Dominican Republic, (Campos) who are barefoot by choice, despite the dangers they face in their environment.
Design Problem
Walking around barefoot is a common thing for a child in the campo to do. They enjoy feeling the ground beneath their feet and digging their toes in the dirt when playing. However, there are many dangers their feet face while walking in town.
Ideation
Early sketches of what this possible shoe could be. Taking inspiration from moccasin and sandal construction; analyzing foot striking tendencies and common foot stances.
Prototypes
During the prototyping process, I learned aspects of pattern making, construction, and material testing. Made with repurposed yoga mat, rubber jar opener, and neoprene.
